New refrigerant for automotive air conditioning

From what I have heard, New refrigerant is on it's way
down the line.  This vehicle cooling agent is being introduced
now into European vehicles as soon as right now
The refrigerant is titled (R1234yf) .which n my opinion is a
stupid name, but who really cares about a name of
Refrigerant anyways.

What does this mean to all of us American drivers
and Our soon to be outdated Airconditioning systems.
Not a Damn thing
The process of having this refrigerant
introduced into US spec vehicles is
so drawn out and extensive that I personally
don't see this even being something
that is available or installed for several years
BUT - Dupont has already had patent approval
in Europe and US is following suit
(Better for Tree huggers)
Not so great for shops that need to
stay current with the Equipment
LV new R1234yf Equipment

This Refrigerant does have a possibility of replacing
stationary refrigerants also ..  Not sure if
the Burocracy would allow that
 but Who knows

The last major change in US spec refrigerant in
Automotive technology  happened in the late 80's early 90's
..and became mandatory in 95' ....  R12 refrigerant was
phased out during that period of time and R134a took the
role  of "Americas eco friendly refrigerant"
.. no CFC's was the big thingy there
Some more linky info:
(this info has purchasable pages of info I think)
Basically if we take that process as a template and say
The US government jumps on this bandwagon
I think it would be something like this :
2011 - US introduces R1234yf refrigerant into US
 vehicle manufacturing
2016 - US mandates all new vehicles sold will have
 R1234yf refrigerant
2020 - R134a starts to rise in price due to supply
 and demand
2025 - R134a is hard to find and retrofiting a vehicle
 with R134  into a R1234yf Refrigerant system
 is cost effective
2028 - Most Area shops don't have the R134 Refrigerant
and most their employee's have never even seen it

So by this time your 18 yr old 2010 Camero you just bought
today will have to be retrofitted into a R1234yf A/C system it
might be time to move on up to one of those Brand
new Flying cars that so convienently has
a Flux capacitor to run the A/C anyhow

Basically New will only really effect those New car
purchasers that buy a car in the first
or second year after the New change is introduced

For this same kind of reason - I don't think I could buy a
New production car in the first
year or two after it is introduced anyhow
Let them work out the bugs ... Then I'm good to go
